DISTRICT SOLO & ENSEMBLE FESTIVAL Saturday, February 25, 2023 Kimberly High School District Solo & Ensemble Festival provides a wonderful opportunity for students to gain musical experience, build musical confidence, and improve performance skills. An adjudicator provides a written and verbal critique of a live student performance and provides a rating based on defined criteria. Events that receive a *1 rating at the Class A level advance to State Solo & Ensemble Festival. As a precursor to District Solo & Ensemble Festival, In-School Judging takes place in mid-January and is a requirement for ALL Kimberly Choir students. District Solo & Ensemble is a requirement for students in Bella Voce & Concert Choir. Students in Chorale have the option to participate in District Solo & Ensemble, but it is not required. Students who advance to State Solo & Ensemble for an individual event can choose whether or not they wish to attend State Festival. Students must communicate their intention to their ensemble director within two weeks of District Solo & Ensemble Festival results. Students who are in an auxiliary ensemble that advances to State Solo & Ensemble must attend State Festival. Students will select music for In–School Judging/Solo & Ensemble Festival in the fall in order to allow sufficient time for learning and polishing the music. Songs are selected from a list provided by the Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA). The directors will work with students during lessons to help prepare the music, but much of the preparation will need be done independently. Students should practice at home so they can make their song(s) the best they can be! |
