Meghan Stecker '16 | Choir Council President
Hello, KHS students, parents, alumni, and community members. Welcome to the 2015-16 school year! As some of you may be aware, our first choir concert is coming up on Tuesday, October 13 at 7:00 pm in the KHS Auditorium. The theme of this concert is "Gather" which is a theme, I think, that perfectly describes the Kimberly High School Choir Program. At least from my perspective, choir is the part of the school day when I feel like I can be completely and entirely myself without worrying about what people think of me. Choir is the time when I am surrounded by people whom I care deeply about and who care deeply about me. Furthermore, I get to do my favorite thing (singing) with these people. Every day when I go to choir, my mood instantly improves because of the amazing support and friendship I receive from my classmates and teachers. Needless to say, it is the best part of my day. A piece of text from one of Concert Choir's songs that perfectly represents both the theme of the concert and our choir program as a whole is, "Ubi Concordia, Ibi Victoria." This translates to "With unity, there is victory." Each of the Kimberly Choirs get together every day for 45 minutes to work on creating a magnificent, beautiful concert for you and for the satisfaction of making great music. We rely upon each other to work on the music at home and we build off of each other during rehearsals. We explore the music together, we listen to each other, and we connect with one another every time we sing. We also rely on our directors to lead us and teach us. We must be completely unified in order to be successful and, if you attend the concert, you will see the results of this unity through our high-level of performance. We want to share our unity as a choir with you in order to remind you of the community in which you gather--whether that community is a team, friends, family, church, or any group to which you belong. Regardless of what that group is, the feelings of belonging and unity that you receive from this group are universal. As humans, we exhibit a need to connect strongly to other humans doing something we love. Please allow us to share that with you through what we love, music. We hope to see you on Tuesday, October 13!
